Applications now open for new NHS Scientist Training Programme

The NHS Healthcare Scientist Training Programme in England is a comprehensive work based training programme, introduced as part of the UK Modernising Scientific Careers programme.

The scheme offers salaried training posts on the application of biology, physics and engineering in healthcare. These are in three broad workforce divisions:

  • life sciences
  • physiological sciences
  • physical sciences and biomedical engineering.

The healthcare science workforce is one of the most exciting and dynamic in the NHS. Healthcare scientists play a vital role in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease and the rehabilitation of patients. Their innovation and expertise help save lives and is crucial in helping the NHS respond to the healthcare challenges of the 21st century.

If you are committed to helping others by applying your scientific skills to healthcare, a career in healthcare science could be for you. As well as scope for personal development, there are great career prospects and a range of opportunities to use your specialist skills and interests to benefit patients.

Successful candidates will be employed as 'trainee healthcare scientists' and join a three year integrated programme of work-based and academic learning, undertaking an accredited Master's degree.

Applications are now open and close on 27 February 2012. To find out if you eligible and for information on how to apply, visit the NHS Healthcare Scientist Training Programme section of the website.
