Step into the NHS schools competition 2009-2010

Competition winners 2009/10

In 2009/10, NHS Careers ran its Step into the NHS schools’ competition for the second year. Working individually, or in groups of up to four students, young people in years eight and nine were asked to design a job description, ideal CV and advert for any of the roles in the NHS.

The competition was a real success and we received 745 entries from 93 schools, involving 1,732 students. Careers covered by entries included gardener, maxillofacial prosthetist and emergency care assistant, fulfilling the aim of raising young people’s awareness of the range of careers available in today’s NHS.

The national winners, Rebecca and Natasha from Newlands Girls’ School in Maidenhead chose to look at the role of a dietitian in the NHS. They will each receive a laptop computer and were selected from the regional winners by a judging panel comprised of NHS staff and representatives from Skills for Health, Inspiring Futures and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
