Using the NHS Jobs website
Getting the most from the NHS Jobs website
If you're looking for current job vacancies visit the NHS Jobs website.
- Use clever search terms - start with broad searches and refine them until you are just getting the details of vacancies you are interested in. Use the 'Detailed search' page and click on the '?' for help with search terms. Using the 'detailed search' you can recall the last search you did when you log in, making it easy to repeat the search terms that best work for you.
- Jobs-by-Email - you can create up to five 'Jobs-by-Email' searches, varying your criteria with each of the searches, to have details of matching new vacancies sent to your inbox daily.
- Check NHS Jobs regularly - vacancies are added all the time and you may find new jobs added after your Jobs-by-Email messages have been sent that day. Try varying your searches to widen your search beyond your usual 'Jobs-by-Email' vacancies.
- Check the closing dates closely - some employers will close a vacancy when they have received sufficient appropriate applications - this will be clearly stated in the advert.
- Don't use block capitals on you application form - this makes it very difficult for potential employers to read, and could affect your chances of being invited for an interview.
- Tailor your application to each job you apply for - use your application form to demonstrate how you meet the person specification requirements for each particular post.
- Answer all the questions on the application form - make sure you have all the information you need to hand, including agreement from your referees, before you log in and write your application.
- Check your emails daily, not just for details of new job vacancies, but for messages from potential employers - you are likely to be invited for interviews and assessment centres via email.
- If you don't get invited for an interview, look again at your application form to see where you can improve your answers when applying for the next suitable job opportunity.
- Use the feedback form. We love to hear your success stories about using NHS Jobs and equally want to know if you have suggestions for ways in which we can improve your experience of the service.
